NYC: New Years on the Brooklyn Bridge
I toast the night away to friends, and forget about tomorrow Current mood: accomplished Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes
Happy New Year friends. And happy it is and will be. In one month I will have been on this coast a year- a friggen year! Party or something is in the works, if not at the very least a separate blog devoted to the anniversary. I have been trying to come up with resolutions for this New Year. My resolution last year was to give up Wal-Mart. Pretty easy to do after I moved to NYC because there is no Wal-Mart here. So here is what I think I will resolve this year: 1. look good naked...uhem 2. Give up fast food. 3. Be On Time. 4. Apply to grad school 5. Read the newspaper everyday OK- that was more for me than you, now it's your turn. Ringing in the New Year was awesome. Romi, Taso and Pryia decided to visit. Trevor didn't even get home until the 31st and I was in the midst of moving. Thankfully Pryia and Taso had a car that they drove in from Columbus and helped me move all but my bed. And lemme tell you...moving-ness was ridiculousness. Somehow we wound up getting SO friggen lost. Whatever- I travel underground all the time, I don't know my way around Brooklyn. And we wound up accidentally driving through all 5 boroughs. Including Staten Island. And to spend less than 60 seconds there we had to pay a 9$ toll. Staten Island is not worth 9$...fyi Well- the night of THE EVE Romi made dinner in our new apartment for us all.
Our apartment is so friggen cute btw. We found it appropriate to dance in the subway. We did most of the partying that night in the subways of New York City.
Its lucky that Trevor has a new digital camera because I wasn't always behind mine.
But of course I am a historian at heart, so I gotta capture as much as I can
Ok- me Taking a pic of Trev taking a pic of me... Alright, finally out of the subway and onto our destination...the Brooklyn Bridge. We decided against Times Square, even though my girl Christina was going to be there. Romi and Trev have already been and I didn't need to deal with all the people, plus Christina will be at Madison Square Garden March 23rd. (That it the real reason it was ok that I didn't see her)
Seriously...I live here.
Correction...WE live here
There wasn't really a countdown, but when the clock struck 12, it was picture taking time and firework watching time. We could see huge fireworks from Staten Island and the ones over Central park.
And the first minute of 2007 we were with each other. And that was the best part. Well...until we called all our peeps
and we ate Dunkin Donuts. I DIDN'T THOUGH!!! Promise. Whatever, plus, I just made that resolution right now, so the first 5 days don't count. Those days are like a buffer zone.
I called a friend from work and we decided that we would head over to Brooklyn for a party. So- back to the subways...
So much laughing. Couldn't even tell you what we were laughing about.
Everything is funnier on a subway at 3 AM I think And thank god for Taso and cheek kisses or I would have really felt deprived on New Years, Romi agrees I'm sure
Well then we do finally get to Brooklyn. We went to a friend of a friend's party. This girl lives on top of a discount toy store. Lucky us. Well we went to the party where the best part was the crazy music. If you have a chance, try to listen to a song called 'Hoez Get Naked' by DJ Assault. It's funny shit. We left soon after and headed back to home. On the subways AGAIN.
We accidentally got off at the wrong stop (5th av. how convenient) and discussed how we were going to throw me onto the subway tracks and leave me to die. naked. and alone. ya- rul funny. We got home at about 5AM and crashed. Woke up like champs at 2PM the next day. When we finally did leave the house it was 4ish. We decided that we wanted to eat Harlem soul food, and lucky for us, Sylvia's (the Queen of Soul Food) is right by where Trevor and I live.
And its real REAL soul food. We actually ordered up collard greens, black eyed peas, mashed potatoes, fried smothered chicken, macaroni and cheese, ribs, fried catfish, and CORN BREAD. (now reread that with a twang. 'CoRn BR-Ed')
And that my friends was the newest new years. I wish you ALL could have been there. It was good times, in the best city in the world, with by far some of the best people in the world, and definitely the best food and drinks in the world! Now Trevor and I are trying to get settled in our new home. We still have nothing (Using and rewashing plastic cutlery) I mean, its pretty ghetto to wash a plastic fork, but I'm ghetto...what can I say? I had purchased wallpaper for my previous apartment, but never put it up. I had too much wine the other night and put it up.
Its pretty cute and I'm not done yet- going to do above the closet door too. (on the right of the pic) Priorities: number 1. wallpaper....number 47.forks Love you all- and HAPPY NEW YEAR. Lauralie
