POETRY: Woman Vs. Self

Woman vs. Self

So secret

Not sacred

Feels like a hell,

Always fighting

Always Angst

Never-ending war

A battlefield littered with memories

Loved ones standby while the

Woman.

Hurts.

Herself.

And this ring she fights in is blocked off on all sides

This battle cannot be about anything other than this.

She cries

She fights

And blow after blow onlookers wonder

Why can’t she leave

Why can’t she conquer

The woman looks up, battered but not broken

She sees an escape, but looks away

Outside of herself, she hears someone say

“You come out of there now! Enough is enough. Come out of that ring, we get it, you’re tough!”

Even in battle at least she has that

If she leaves the ring now, could she live without ‘that’?

She cries and she screams, unsure how to go

“I’m so scared of what I do not know.”

With a scream so loud you would think that a caterpillar was in its cacoon fiercly turning into a butterfly

she shouts “LET ME FLY!”

and she exits that ring- beaten, scarred and unsure.

She cannot walk, she cannot talk, she needs support.

And the ring quickly disappears as onlookers flock to her side

“How’d you do it?” They ask

She stares, so surprised

“All the cheering and kudos. It was you who believed…

Why is it now that you’re questioning me?”

Broken she looks at who she is now.

Woman vs. self has caused quite a crowd.

Now tell them how you stopped fighting yourself?

She looks around and sees boxing rings all about.

But she’s out.

People trapped inside.

Battles from onlookers in their own sorrows.

It’s a trap for us all and everyone’s scared

But it’s better to stop fighting and get out of there.

She wants to talk magic and life-giving-life.

But the words don’t seem to come out right.

“I get it, I promise, because I am you.

We can stop all this madness and be happy too.”

Her rythm stops being so familiar and kind now.

She looks back at her sorrow

The only way out is the only way out

A moment in time

Sipping celebratory red wine

Smiles and laughter now come by

Tea. A hug. A repentant inside.

The only way out is the only way out…
